Don't throw out that TV!

Arizona Daily Wildcat, University of Arizona, AZ

2 days ago by Matt Roland

One starry night almost exactly a year ago, three hooded college students tiptoed into the night, clutching large black garbage bags in their hands.

But these garbage bags were not to be thrown into the trash; they were to be filled with it.

While for many students the final days of the semester mark the onset of testing season, for dozens of entrepreneurial trash-sifters, finals are prime time for dumpster-diving.

Coverage of gun incident lacks relevant information

Daily Lobo, University of New Mexico, NM

Editor, I live in the Student Residence Center, and I like to take a nap in the little time I have between studying and having a little fun before finals. I must say I slept through most of the gun incident and its aftermath. I was in that Greek mythology class and wondered why a student would be called out by the police standing just barely out of sight.

Why shoes? Why anything?

It was a warm Sunday evening in late April. I got up from my chair, unable to contain

my excitement.

I told my roommates the news, made a phone call and sent off a few e-mails. I had just read an article that left me feeling possibly more vindicated than I have in my life.

People need to be educated about Islamic beliefs, goals

Daily Lobo, University of New Mexico, NM

Editor, Two recent letters discussing Islam reflect contrasting opinions about Muslim religious belief and culture. The other letter published Tuesday says, "Islam is a religion that makes itself very distinct from culture." Our opinions, judgments and beliefs are based on education and personal experience - education including examination, analysis and scrutiny.

Professor's resignation a blight upon University

Daily Lobo, University of New Mexico, NM

Editor, Sharon Warner's resignation is a stunning blow not just to the English Department but the entire University. As a former Daily Lobo editor, a graduate of the creative writing program and current MFA student at Sarah Lawrence College, this news disturbs me immensely.

The real answer to affirmative action

Arizona Daily Wildcat, University of Arizona, AZ

The Arizona Civil Rights Initiative has swept over the desert like an unexpected monsoon.

To some, it's a prayer come true; to others, it's a disaster.

To the bill's supporters, the initiative - which would forbid the state from either discriminating against or in favor of certain individuals because of their race, sex or national origin - is a step toward a "color-blind" America.

Ask AGGnus

The Round Up, New Mexico State University, NM

Dear AGGnus,

One of my best friends is graduating, and I don't know what to get her for a present. I have tried asking her what she wants, but she keeps saying she doesn't want anything from me. I know she is just being nice and polite. Do you have any gift ideas for difficult friends?

Giftless in LC

Dear Giftless,

It is nice that your friend doesn't want to be greedy, but a college graduate definitely deserves a gift.
